Klipsch HD 300 Review

June 25, 2011 by Jason

Klipsch is known for providing exquisite sounds and full-bodied and rich audio experiences. They have over six decades of research and development experience which I am sure comes through in their Klipsch Theater 300 surround system.

This system is designed to be matched with a 5.1 A/V receiver (purchased separately) so it comes with 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer. The surround sound speakers can handle up 100 watts per channel and the subwoofer is a powered subwoofer with has a built-in 80-watt amplifier.

Sleek Design for the Modern Home

The Klipsch HD Theater 300 with its satin black finish will go with almost any decor and furniture. The curved housing is a nice detour from the standard square box look giving it a more modern and unique appearance.

The speakers look sharp with or without the black cloth grilles. Depending on your preferences for appearance you may wish to keep the covers. Just remember that the covers do offer a some extra protection if you have children or pets.

Furthermore, packing all that quality and power in only 5.5 x 3.6 x 3.85 inches for the satellite speakers, 3.6 x 7.5 x 3.85 for the center speaker, and 11.8 x 9.9 x 14.6 for the subwoofer, the Klipsch 300 is compact enough to fit right into your elegant living room.

Flexible Mounting for Easy Installation

The amount of work needed to make the Klipsch 300 HD system a part of your home theater will be minimal as Klipsch’s innovative minds offer support for your preferences.

The Klipsch HD Theater 300 satellite speakers come with wall brackets that are sideways movable for up to 40 degrees and can be mounted vertically or horizontally so you’ll never be frustrated when fiddling which position is the best for your room. If wall mounts aren’t your cup of tea, then ¼-20 inserts are also available for stand mounting. Custom ceiling and shelf mounts are also up to your dandy; just be sure to apply the included stick-on rubber pads to the bottom of the speakers to prevent them from jumping around when the power gets flowing.

The center channel speaker is provided with a cradle base that also allows for side movement up to 45 degrees. This cradle can be used to place the center speaker on the floor, entertainment system, or can be mounted on the wall directly below the TV for those who have a wall mounted or countersunk flatscreen.

This product received 13 5-star ratings and 3 4-stars out of 20 reviews at Amazon.com. The few issues were the subwoofer’s bass not being strong enough and some hardware technicalities.Click Here for All the Reviews

MicroTractrix Horn Technology for Superior Audio

Klipsch’s shows off their 60 years of audio technology by placing the same horn geometry and compression technology used in theaters into their Klipsch HD 300. This technology allows the system to reproduce lifelike sounds and each main and surround speaker has this technology packed inside with the center speaker being magnetically shielded to prevent the speaker from interfering with your TV.

MicroTractrix Horn creates beautiful sound by using a 0.75 inch textile tweeter mounted behind a flared horn to control the dispersion of sound. This allows the tweeter to create more sound with less energy improving the overall efficiency. The tweeter is a specially designed speaker for producing high frequency (the squeaks and squeals). Producing these high frequency sounds with precision is what helps create overall lifelike sounds.

This horn innovation ultimately delivers more output with less energy, improves reliability, and reduces distortion giving crisp and clear dialogue and harmonious sounds, and explosive effects.

Powered Subwoofer

The subwoofer is a 6.5 inch driver made with a fiber-composite cone, has a built-in 80-watt amplifier and allows you to control the bass volume, adjust the crossover from 60Hz to 200Hz, and control the phase. All this control so you can get the heart-thumping effects you want out of your bass.

Important Things to Note

This package does not come with a receiver, an external amplifier, speaker wires, or subwoofer cables. The Klipsch 300 HD is purely a speaker system package for 5.1 surround sound capability. You’ll need to separately purchase a receiver and an amplifier that are electrically compatible in terms of wattage. The Klipsch HD 300 recommends an amplifier with 100 watts of power for optimal function. Any less than 75 watts and you’ll find your speakers hitting the hay before their due time.

Some reviews have noted that the subwoofer’s quality is not at par with the satellite speakers, which are truly mind-bogglingly high, especially when you come to think that they are as miniscule in size as they come. According to them, the sub’s bass is not strong enough and when they do up the volume level distortion becomes notable. If you’re personally not satisfied with the boom of the bass then you can hook up the sub to an amplifier or use a different subwoofer altogether.

Where to Buy

At the time I did this research Amazon.com was the lowest priced option. In my personal experience they offer the best customer service, some of the quickest shipping, and have always allowed things to be returned when I was not happy.
