Enjoy 1080p HD with the HDMI Output

The HTS3371D has one rear HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) output to connect your HD television, cable, or satellite box. This player will upscale standard-definition DVD video formats to full progressive scanned 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution (1090p). Bring life back into those older standard definition DVDs.

1080p greatly enhances SD resolution of 480, plus, a progressive scanning method means you’ll get twice the number of picture lines for your film but virtually invisible scan lines. You’ll get nothing but the richest, most detailed crystal clear videos and images without having to purchase significantly more expensive media sources.

Optic Connectivity

As if HDMI weren’t enough, the Philips HTS3371D also sports a rear digital optical input that can carry uncompressed audio files for maximum audio quality with clear and powerful bass without a trace of distortion. Your surround sound experience will surely be an addictive one with this system.

High Quality Movie Watching with DivX Ultra Certification

With full High-Definition and 5.1 channel surround sound, DivX Ultra compatibility completes the triumvirate of home media entertainment. An MPEG4-based media compression technology, DivX is the cutting edge format for video playback with interactive menus and multiple subtitles, audio, and video playbacks, trumping the popular AVI format.

But DivX is not the only format the Philips HTS3371D favors. It also plays WMV (Windows Media Video), WMA (Windows Media Audio), MP3, and JPEG files for images. This way, you are never really at a loss of sources for your home entertainment pleasure.

“My wife who is not into such things normally just loves it because it sounds so good and is easy to hear even when turned down low.”

“If I had to describe this unit in one sentence I would say it is sound in HD, just as HDTV is video in HD.”

Full Media Playback with iPod Dock and USB Port

With the wild popularity of Apple iPods Phillip has decided to play along. The HTS3371D comes with an iPod dock with the 5th Generation iPod, iPod Classic, iPod Nano 1st-3rd Generations, iPod Mini, iPod Touch, and the iPhone giving you the capability to play music directly from your iPod to your surround sound system.

Aside from the common CD, DVD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, and DVD+R DL’s, you can also playback your media files through non-compact disc sources. The front Hi-Speed USB line-in lets you stream videos and music with a transfer rate of 480Mbps, 40 times faster than ordinary flash disks. Hook in your external hard drive filled with your favorite blockbusters and you’ll be watching them front, center, and virtually within in no time.

Make Your Lifestyle Simple with EasyLink

Philips EasyLink utilizes the HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) industry standard that lets you control all your Philips home theater components with just one remote. This is made possible through the HDMI cable connection.

Simply connect your HTS3371D to your Philips HDTV with an HDMI cable. You will have the power to access key functions universal remotes usually won’t give you access all with just one remote control. This makes your life a lot easier as you won’t have several remote controls on your coffee table.

Save Energy and Money with Energy Star Certified Label

We all know how important it is to conserve energy and in return money. So the Philips HTS3371D Home Theater System is Energy Star certified.

This means that the product utilizes energy saving circuitry designs to minimize standby consumption (less than 1 watt) and strict component selection to ensure the highest efficiency of its materials at the most economical costs.

Some Important Things to Note

The receiver is not compatible with Comcast universal remote or Vizio products. This may be a little inconvenient for those who use component home theater systems wherein the brands differ. If you have this receiver and a different branded television then you will have to settle with having two remotes.

The 5.1 channel surround sound system is a great feature of this receiver, especially so since the individual channels including the subwoofer bass channel can be independently adjusted for the most flexible surround sound experience. However, one thing you’ll need to note is that you won’t be able to switch the settings in the middle of viewing your DVD. So before you watch your movie, adjusting the speaker volumes. Though a bit annoying this still much better over systems that don't allow individual speaker adjustment at all.

Where to Buy

At the time I did this research Amazon.com was the lowest priced option. In my personal experience they offer the best customer service, some of the quickest shipping, and have always allowed things to be returned when I was not happy.
