I certainly find it frustrating when I have files in my CD that my player could not recognize. Well, this frustration need not arise with the Sony DAV-DZ170 for it is capable with a full collection audio and video formats.
Be it a DVD, DVD-R (Recordable), DVD-RW (Rewritable), DVD+RW, or DVD+R DL (Double Layer), the Sony DAV-DZ170 plays it without question. The slowly becoming obsolete CD-R’s and CD-RW’s are also playable.
For music files, MP3, WMA, AAC files are playable. JPEG images are also included in this high variability. In this regard, you may connect your iPod device via a front USB port to play your customized playlists and videos. There’s no escaping this home theater system when it comes format compatibility.

Some Important Notes
It is specified that the Sony Bravia DAV-dDZ70 Home Theater System iPod connectivity supports only the iPod Classic; 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation iPod Nano; and 1st and 2ndgeneration iPod Touch. Keep in mind that if you own an iPod Touch above the 2nd generation or an iPhone, you won’t be able to connect it to this receiver.
The surround speakers aren’t wireless, so you’ll have to be innovative about how you’ll position them around the room so as to keep the clutter to a minimum, especially with cables running around to the back. Also, there are no separate channel volume controls – everything has to be set together. However, you do have the option of placing all speakers in front. What you’ll need to do is employ virtual surround sound using the Digital Cinema Auto Calibration and let the system manipulate the settings to the best possible surround sound quality with all the speakers set in front.
